Is Good Search Engine Optimisation Enough for your Jobsite?

Is Good Search Engine Optimisation Enough for your Jobsite?
You have set up your jobsite or recruitment website and now
you want visitors, in fact you want more than that you want
candidates and their CV's or Résumé's. You
have a market niche, the guys that built your site tell you
that they have optimised the pages and so you begin to
eagerly wait for the traffic to appear in your website
statistics. Yet day after day the numbers are just a
handful. You speak to the tech guys and they tell you not
to worry it just takes time, or they suggest that you use
some pay per click. So off you go and spend hours
researching which PPC system to use, you decide on one of
the big three and you spend hours setting up your adverts
and begin spending your daily budget. You are horrified by
the cost of some of the keywords that the system tells you
are best for your advert, you have an advert for a mortgage
manger and it is going to cost you £2.50 for each
click to be ranked in the top 5, but still you need the
traffic and those candidates and you have just spent
£10K on the website so you had better make it work,
or it could cost you your job and forget the next pay rise.

If this sounds a familiar story you might like to broaden
your horizons, think outside the box a little. Does
everyone that want a job as a mortgage manager really
search for "mortgage manager" on the top search engines, do
they only search on the top search engines. Do a search
yourself on the top short keywords and phrases and see how
many other sites are competing fro the word or phrase. I
was recently talking to a corporate account manager for the
UK's most dominant search engine and he told me that one of
the retail banks was paying £8.00 for each click to
be number 1 for the keyword "mortgage", well that might be
financially viable for the very large corporate purse of a
bank, but it would be crazy money to attract candidates to
a jobsite or recruitment website.
