Start a Home Business With Online Auctions

There are many ways that you can start your own home
business and enjoy the rewards that come with it. This
articles is going to discuss generating extra income by
starting your own home business from online auctions.

Did you know that there are other places on the internet
besides Ebay that you can sell your items. There are
Yahoo and MSN auctions, as well as another site that gets a
great deal of traffic and potential buyers-Amazon. Some of
the great things about all of these sites is that they take
very little experience to get started, very little money
and not too much time. Additionally, and very important
to sales is that these sites already have a great deal of
built-in, targeted traffic. It's hard to make a sale when
no one knows where to find your items.

Finding products to sell isn't that hard either. You can
get started with some old CD's or movies or books to get
used to the process. Then you might start expanding by
cleaning out your own garage or attic. If you don't find
much there… take it a step further and offer to clean or
organize garages for your neighbors for a fee. If there's
anything they don't want, tell them you will dispose of it
for them. If it's something you think you can sell, all
the better. Then you can earn money from the service
provided and the items that you come away with, not a bad
home business.

When you get your auctions listed, be sure to have clear,
detailed pictures of each item. You know the old adage, "A
picture is worth a thousand words." But remember, a
picture isn't enough. You want to write a great
description of each item that you list. Tell people things
like how it looks (in case the picture doesn't load or they
just want to read about it) how old it is, any relevant
history, what the current going rate is for a new item like
yours and what the dimensions are. People like to know
what they're buying and will buy from the person who gives
the most information for them to make their purchasing
decision.

Make sure you have a descriptive title, not a flashy one.
Flash doesn't help you get found when someone is searching
for you, good key words and descriptions do.

Do some research looking at other items similar to yours
and see who has the most bids. Then, see what you think
made that item more attractive, and apply that knowledge to
your own auctions. With a little practice and effort, you
could have a booming home business in no time.

Affiliate Marketing Guide To A Monthly Online Income

Creating an online affiliate marketing system which
produces a monthly income is relatively easy. With one
catch, you have to know exactly what you're doing and how
the whole online marketing system works. Figuring out all
the details can take you years to learn.

What the beginning webmaster or marketer doesn't realize
building a solid online business takes time and patience.
It is not done overnight, despite what the latest marketing
gurus are trying to sell you, it simply takes time and a
lot of hard work to build a solid online business.

First, you must have a basic understanding of how the
Internet works and the future role you will play in it. You
must understand the net is basically an extension of the
real world: it is an enormous virtual playground as well as
a vast storehouse of the world's collective knowledge. But
you must also understand the web is a global marketplace
unlike anything that has been seen before on this planet.

If you want to be an affiliate marketer you must place
yourself or your site into this whole online environment.
As an affiliate marketer you must play some sort of role in
the transfer of information within this complex structure.

How?

Simply give surfers what they're looking for: information.

Supplying valuable, needed information is your key to
online affiliate success.

Here are some proven affiliate marketing strategies or tips
to get you started on your affiliate marketing career. Each
is a brief summation of some of the factors to keep in mind
as you create your own complex, yet simple, online
marketing system.

1. Acquiring Knowledge

Your first step is to acquire the basic skills and
knowledge needed to run an online site or business. When I
started I had to learn how to write HTML from scratch and
go from there... today there are many online site builders
and WYSIWYG editors to get you started. Plus, you now have
whole online site building systems you can use - Ken Evoy's
SBI comes readily to mind.

No matter which route you follow, you must understand how
an online site works, how to use keywords, how to create
valuable content and how to tie in your affiliate links
with this content... all this basic knowledge you must
acquire.

2. Get The Big Picture: Your Role - Your Content

You must fully understand your role in the whole online
affiliate marketing process. Your content must be valuable
to the Internet user, it must offer information, solve a
problem or offer a special deal. There must be some reason
why the surfer will use your site to find what they're
looking for on the web. They must benefit in some way from
using your site.

Again, offering valuable, helpful information will spell
online affiliate success for you.

3. Build Your Foundation

You must have your own domain or domains. You must create
your own piece of virtual real estate that you can build
and gradually add to as you proceed. Be wary of free sites.
Don't rent, own your real estate outright. Your sites will
become your valuable properties you will continue to build
for years to come.

When picking a domain name try to get as close as you can
to the main keyword or keyword phrase represented by your
site's topic. Use hyphens if you have to but choose a name
that is short and can be easily remembered and typed
directly into a browser.

As for site design and layout - a simple solution is to use
a blog format such as the free WordPress software and host
it on your own domain. Extremely effective way of creating
a full-powered content site without having to worry about
learning HTML code or programing. You can have a website up
and running within minutes.

4. Know Your Partners & Their Products

As an affiliate marketer you will be selling other people's
stuff. You must get to know these future partners and their
marketing systems. Pick affiliate products directly related
to the topic of your site. Something your visitors are
interested in and would likely purchase after you have
supplied them with valuable information about those
products.

A good way to find potential products and partners is to
join the well established major affiliate networks on the
web. These networks represents most of the Top 500
Companies in the world. Affiliate networks like Commission
Junction, LinkShare, Amazon, ClickBank, Shareasale... these
networks have been around for years and offer excellent
payment structures and commission rates.

5. Long Tail Keyword Marketing

Develop content and high rankings for long tail keyword
phrases related to your site's topic. These are some of the
least competitive keywords yet they will also prove to be
the most lucrative for you. Find the long tail keywords
within your niche and exploit them. Using exact brand names
of the affiliate products you're promoting make for
effective long tail keywords.

Consistently use and develop this long tail keyword
strategy and you will succeed at affiliate marketing.

6. Build Your One-Way Links

Take a pro-active approach to link building. Don't sit
around waiting for links, instead go out and get them. Use
your keyword anchor links in the resource box of your
articles. Distribute these articles to all the major
article directories... make sure Ezinearticles.com,
Goarticles.com, ArticleAlley.com... are on your list.

Recommend products that you use, make forum posts, create
viral videos, join social media sites, offer a free
newsletter and build your own subscriber base, create
follow-up autoresponder series on the major products you
promote... these are all ways of creating traffic and
customers.

7. Embrace Google But Don't Ignore the Others

Embrace Google as if your affiliate marketing life depended
on it - chances are it will be!

Google is the search engine that you must optimize for if
you want your site to really succeed online. Don't ignore
the others, but Google has become the most popular search
engine in the world and even accounts for 50% of all the
searches made in the USA. (comScore)

So short of a brown-nose, do everything you can to please
Google. The rewards are worth it. Whether you're a Google
fan or not, Google has gained the trust and respect of the
majority of Internet users. Getting a top 10 placement for
your targeted keywords will often mean money in the bank.

8. Be Aware Of The Social Media Revolution

Be aware the Internet is constantly changing and in the
next few years everything will be turned topsy-turvy. We
are talking about the growing popularity of user-generated
content sites such as MySpace, FaceBook, YouTube, Digg,
Technorati...

Stay within the flow by making sure any site you create has
a blog and RSS feed attached to it. Make sure all your
content can be easily bookmarked in all these different
social bookmarking sites. One simple solution is to use the
easy bookmarking system supplied by Addthis.com, place
their code on your content pages and let your visitors
bookmark your content for you in all these different media
sites.

9. Model It

In art one of the best ways to learn is to model or copy
the masters. You learn by seeing how someone else has
approached and solved a problem and then use their model or
example. In affiliate marketing, one of the best ways to
learn is to copy or model your business on one that has
already been proven to work.

This is NOT literal copying of a site or business but
simply modeling your own business on an existing example
that works. Same structure, same marketing techniques, same
principles... building your affiliate business on an
existing mold or model is a wise route to take if you want
to succeed.

10. Be Patient For Results

Building a viable online affiliate business takes some time
so be patient. If you're building a content rich site and
targeting specific keywords it can take months, sometimes
even years, before you obtain significant results. So have
long term goals in place and expect plenty of hard work
before you reap the real rewards.

Just remember becoming a full time online affiliate
marketer is well within anyone's reach. However, like most
things in life, the journey is always much more enjoyable
than your final destination. Many of you will probably
discover, like I did, that 'the reach is the grasp'.
Actually doing something is the main reward, all those
monthly affiliate checks are just pleasant aftershocks.
Very nice aftershocks that add up very quickly into a
healthy monthly online income!

Business Software You Shouldn't Be Without

Having the right equipment and software can make any online
business more profitable and successful. While you can
start a business with little more than a computer and
high-speed internet connection, as your business grows, you
will need help tracking orders, profits, expenses, and
marketing your product.

Business software

The following software can help you organize your finances
and make communicating with customers much easier:

• Spreadsheet programs – A few spreadsheets may be all you
need to track orders, expenses, and profits for your home
business. You can buy special software that will create
spreadsheets for you, or you can use a program like
Microsoft Excel, where you build them yourself. It is
important to maintain accurate records for tax purposes,
lost merchandise, and customer returns.

• Accounting software – If you are not good with figures or
you don't have the time to create invoices and track
spending and profits, investing in accounting software is
the best way to stay on top of company finances. This
software will instantly create invoices, send them to
customers, track expenses, and allow you to see bank
statements and other documents online.

• Autoresponder program – If you have a huge email list to
maintain, writing individual email can take hours out of
your day. If you want to send those on your list special
coupons, offers, or tell them about a new feature on your
web site, sending mass email will save you time. Simply add
all of the addresses into the program and it will send your
messages to everyone on your list.

Computer programs like these can be found in most office
supply stores and online.

Other programs you may want to invest in, but that are not
necessary include:

• Desktop publishing program – These programs are used for
creating brochures, newsletters, business cards, and other
marketing materials. If you plan on using print media to
sell your products in addition to online marketing, then
programs like these are worth looking into as it will save
you from having to spend extra money in hiring a
professional.

• Web site design program – If you want to build a web site
using HTML, you can do so without having to learn the
language or hiring a professional web designer. Programs
like Dreamweaver can help you by simplifying the process
and providing you with many options in terms of aesthetics
on your site.

Before investing in any of these computer programs, you
should determine your business needs, your personality, and
the overall cost. Keep in mind that you should keep
excellent financial records because you will be responsible
for tracking and taking out taxes for the year. With the
right accounting software, this is very easy to do.

Advantages of computer software

The advantages of computer software are many. You will be
able to track your marketing techniques to see if they are
effective, make changes instantly in order to increase
sales, and be able to communicate more frequently with
those who are on your email list.

Take advantage of these programs as they are available to
help you run your business in an organized, professional,
and efficient manner.

Build Your List

Why should you build a list? Because nothing gets done in
your business without a list of interested prospects, and
nothing gets done with your list of prospects without
regular contact.

Your mailing list needs to consist of people in your niche
who want to hear from you, who are interested in what you
have to say and what you have to offer. Because of this,
the most important list to grow is your own. You can buy
lists, share lists, promote to other people's lists, all of
which are extremely valuable, but your list is made of
people who have raised their hands to hear from you
personally, and will be your most responsive list to what
you have to offer, especially if you communicate with them
regularly with information that interests them.

Newsletters and regular email and/or postal mail contact
are major and necessary building blocks to grow your
business. Because of this, you'll need to set up systems to
maintain regular contact with your potential clients. The
best tool for systematizing email contact is a sequential
autoresponder.

What is an autoresponder service?

An autoresponder service is a service that sends out your
newsletter and announcement emails for you. Once you write
an email and tell the autoresponder when to send it, that's
it. It sends out an email to each person on your list,
according to whatever schedule you decide.

Why use an autoresponder?

1. An autoresponder will keep track of who got which email
when, with no need for any assistance from you. This can be
an incredible time-saver.

2. Sending out a bulk email from your own computer or
server looks suspicious to many internet service providers,
and could get blocked from reaching the intended recipient.
A good autoresponder service will have a great reputation
with internet service providers, and large numbers of
emails will get through to intended recipients.

3. If someone hits the "this is spam" button on their email
account, your emails to other recipients at the same
internet service provider will often get blocked too. You
then have to contact the internet service provider and
clear your name. If you have an autoresponder with a great
reputation, they will do this for you-- another incredible
time-saver.

4. Sending out an email with everyone's email address
viewable is not only unprofessional-looking, but it sets up
a situation for those addresses to get copied and pasted
onto a spammer's email list somewhere. By using an
autoresponder service, each recipient receives an email
addressed only to them.

How to choose an autoresponder service-

The best autoresponder services have great reputations
with internet service providers, and will keep track of
everything for you. All you have to do is write the emails
and paste the sign-up boxes for your newsletter on your
website.

Your autoresponder should offer an unlimited number of
lists, as well allowing fairly big numbers of people on
each list for one flat monthly fee, or at least a
reasonable scaling of price according to the size of list.

Your reward for staying in touch...

By building your list and staying in contact with them
through a service such as an autoresponder, you will create
familiarity, friendship, and trust. Since people buy from
people that they know, like and trust, you'll reap the
benefits of greater income, as well as doing business with
people who like and trust you- a winning formula all around.
