it is rambling writing that makes no sense at first) When

will be much easier to write without this method. 5 minute
chunks keeps it simple.

Databases are a small businesses most our most important
marketing tool. The following article discusses how to
ensure the data within your database is valid and reliable,
how to systematize or automate your database marketing, and
how to obtain a useful prospect or mailing list.

Whether you keep your contacts in Outlook, ACT, Goldmine,
QuickBooks, Excel or another contact management program,
the thing that matters most is that the database needs to
be updated - new contacts should be added often, the
database should be easily accessed, its content should be
accessible in a mail merge process as well as downloadable.

If your database is not in a computer program, you have a
problem; you probably are not keeping in touch with your
contacts often enough since you cannot even use your data
to create a document with a mail merge feature.

It is imperative that you take whatever steps necessary to
enter your contacts, business cards, emails, scraps of
paper, or other items that contain client/potential client
information on them, into a computer application. At the
very least, use a program such as Microsoft Excel to build
a spreadsheet. If you to not type or feel it might take
you too long to complete, DELEGATE this task! Pay someone,
such as a Virtual Assistant or administrative type person,
to enter and organize your information so you do not have
to do this yourself. Remember, doing this type of work
does not make you money; you need to be concentrating on
increasing your list and making more sales.

Make sure you include a column or category to capture
'where you met them', if they are 'hot, warm or a cold
prospect', a 'client, active or non-client', a 'referral
source', 'vendor' or other contact. This will allow you to
extract data into separate groups and mailing lists since
you will need to send different messages to each group.

Prospects will need sales messages, while clients will need
additional services and/or touchy-feely messages, while
referral sources will need to be asked for referrals and
need to know about any new service and/or products your
business is offering.

In order to obtain a useful mailing list, I always
recommend using a direct mail list company or list broker;
I can refer you to one if you need it.

Typically, lists cost about $100 per 1000 names. However,
the more criteria you want included, such as demographic or
psychographic info, the cost will increase incrementally.
It can increase to as much as $300 per 1000. You can also
obtain lists in Microsoft Excel format through email, so
they are mail merge ready. These can typically be
available within two to six business days.

For one of my clients, a shoe store, I acquired a list of
women age 30-60 who lived in two specific zip codes AND who
had shopped for shoes in the last three months. That is a
huge way to really hone in on a specific target audience!

You can obtain a list for almost any target you may have --
attorneys, school administrators, specific age groups,
income or geographic areas. It is a great way to increase
your database quickly. However, for small business owners,
I do always recommend networking in person to build your
list the best.

Really, the more people you meet and add to your database,
the more you can market to by mail, email, phone, and other
marketing methods. This will also lead to more referrals
and increased business.

In order to systematize or automate your database
marketing, I recommend that you first sign up for and using
an email marketing program.

Email marketing is free (except for low fees if you work
with these companies to manage your programs) and can be
the best use of your marketing budget. I prefer to use
Constant Contact because it is easy to manage, creates my
templates, uploads logos and photos and includes links. In
addition, Constant Contact tracks every email that I send,
captures which the individuals open them, who clicks
through to my Web site, who opts out, and other valuable
information. I love it!

I recommend emailing your database (everyone you know who
has email) at least once a month. However, you should do
this twice a month or more if you really need to promote
your products and/or services online.

Depending upon the type of business you have, more than
likely, you will also want to do some direct mailing
campaigns. If you have a tough market like real estate,
mortgage, insurance or financial services, you will
definitely want to do monthly mailings. The key is that
you send something of value to your mailing list. Make
sure you send information that your audience want to know
more about, not just what you want to tell them about.
YOUR MESSAGE IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS!

Making your mailings automatic can be as simple as
designing a campaign of 6-12 postcards or letters all at
one time. You can do so by setting up the printing at a
mail house or local printer. Then, every month, all you
have to do is email them your updated mailing list and they
will, in turn, print and send the materials. If you plan
your mailings, not only will it save you money, but also it
will help you target your message and allow you to plan for
specific times of year (e.g. holidays, special sales).

If you do not do this, you might end up frantically trying
to put together a mailer each month, fitting it in between
appointments and a few late nights. In addition, it is
likely that nothing will flow, your message might not be
clear, might not grab your reader's attention, or worse
yet, you could forget about your branding (e.g., how your
list recognizes your pieces from others every month).

Finally, if you cannot manage all of this yourself - JUST
DELEGATE IT! Hire a graphic designer and/or marketing
company who can design your pieces and coordinate your
mailings. Then, hire an assistant for your office or a
Virtual Assistant to manage your mailings each month. It
will save you money in the end. Believe me.

plus, every seminar or training you attend will refer to
"the list" as extremely important to build your internet

As much as that phrase may be true, I would say that the
money is not in the list.

Wait, before you call me nuts or close this article, let me
explain to you why the money is not just in building the
list, but ...

...the money is in "what you do with the list"!

More often than not, some internet marketers don't respect
the people that opted into their list, they don't nurture
them or feed them with valuable information that will make
their list to respect them and trust them as an expert.

They saw the list as an avenue to make money and kept
bombarding them with one sales pitch after another and
before they realize it, the number of list has dropped
dramatically and the majority of the remaining don't open
their mails - they ignore their messages. What such
marketers' did not realize is the fact that, the people
that opt-in have the power with the click of a button to

I see the following situation so many times with people in
their online Network Marketing or MLM Business.

They are looking for a way to get some extra cash and come
across an MLM opportunity see the Compensation Plan,
totally see the leverage that is possible and fall in love
with the dream of working less, choosing their own hours
and earning a lot of money in the process.

Do not misunderstand me all of this is possible once you
know how to do it. But for the beginner in Network
Marketing it is a steep learning curve and will take either
a lot of time and effort or a lot of money for them to
start earning.

Most people seem to get involved with a high end
opportunity to start with that pays out big commissions
usually $1,000 per sale and think that if they can just get
a few sales they will leverage of their downline and earn a
lot of cash virtually on autopilot.

The problem is that the people who purchase a product from
them (Their Downline) also think the same think that they
will too leverage from their downline.

Again this can happen if you are lucky enough to sell a
product to someone who has a huge list of prospects and
knows how to Network Market then they may go out and make
50 sales in a month and you therefore earn $50,000.
Unfortunately the chances of signing somebody like that
from just a few sales are not good. In fact 97% of people
fail in their MLM Business.

Most people start out by buying leads from a company and
this has several inherent problems.

1.They are usually expensive

2.They are usually sold several times over so that the lead
generation company can make a profit.

3.They are quite often offered an incentive to fill in an
online survey. Which means that they have not been the one
to initiate the interest. (It is usually just another
question on a survey)

4.They are not targeted enough.

A lot of the time people end up in the situation that they
have spent more than they would earn in commission from a
sale and they have not even made a sale yet.

Let me ask you a question '

Would you really spend $2,000 in marketing to earn a
commission of $1,000?

It does not make any sense to do this anyone can see that
you have just lost $1,000.

But what about the leverage is what most of you are
thinking. If that one sale sells one product a month for
the next six months I would be in a profit situation of
$5,000.

And of course you would be correct if that did happen.
Remember the statistic from above - 97% of people fail in
their MLM Business. Of course this does not mean that they
do not make any sales but I'm sure that you get the point.
If you want to be successful in Network Marketing and have
any kind of longevity then you need to:-

1.Create your own sales (Do not rely on your downline to
sell)

2.Improve the odd's for your downline - Teach them how to
be successful in their business - You will have some time
wasters to filter - So concentrate your time on those who
are taking action.

3.Create your own leads ( you can do this at far less cost
and they will be far more targeted)

I would also recommend starting with a lower value product
whilst you are building up your knowledge. It is far easier
to sell something that is $30 than $3,000. Think about the
products that you have purchased - I bet you have purchased
several in the $20 to $80 category and very few over
$2,000. The risk at this level is not as big also.

That way as you learn and add value to yourself in terms of
knowledge you will also be building your list so that at a
later time you can move up to the higher end product and
you will have a list that you can sell to.

Remember the title to this article - Turnover is Vanity,

Small reports are the shorter versions of ebooks, not
exceeding thirty pages or so. I've written several of them
myself, and it's not difficult to do. I hammer out the
rough drafts in half a day, then spent the next few days
polishing them and converting them into a finalized
information product. I even have a method that can make
good but simple reports quickly, though you can really go
to town on one with images and fancy headers if you choose.

The basics of creating them are simple:

- Pick a topic you know and is related to your niche.
- Write a rough draft.
- Edit it until it shines.
- Insure you've included a link that points at your site.
- Collect or make the images you need, if any.
- Convert it all into a finalized PDF report.

Once you have your report, you can start using it to get
results. The first and most obvious way is to sell it,
which I do as well, but that doesn't even scratch the
surface of making your report be your workhorse. Small
reports have all sorts of applications, and here are a few
you may not have considered.

- Build you list with it. Reports make good giveaways for
signups, because they don't take as much time to make as
full-blown ebooks. That means you can give someone enough
good information to help overcome their "I don't want to be
spammed" reflex, and sign up for your list without you
investing massive amounts of trouble in your freebie.

- You can use them as bonuses for a more expensive product.
If you do, your report should be related to your product's
niche in some way, or written about something that's a
value-add to it. You might even be able to get one to be
someone else's product bonus, and put your link in front of
their customers in exchange for helping them sell their
stuff.

- Make it viral. To do this, you could sell it with resale
or master resale rights, or issue it away with giveaway
rights and the capacity to rebrand it with an affiliate
link. In these instances, someone else can use your
content to their monetary benefit. Your small report will
spread across the Internet as people sell it to make money,
use it to build their lists, or rebrand it with their
affiliate links to earn commissions.

- Build your credibility with it. This is the larger-scale
version of what you do with article marketing, and frankly
unavoidable in any case. If you make a report and publish
it by making it viral, selling it, or using it as a bonus,
it will reflect on your credibility for better or worse.
That means when you make your report, make it about
something you know, and be sure you've done a significant
amount of editing and double-checking before you go public
with it.

Small reports may not seem like much to you at a glance,
but you can get bigger traffic, bigger opt-ins, bigger
credibility, or a bigger bottom line with something you
could write and then finalize in a few days. All in all,
