Coaching a client last week, I was reminded of a trap it's
very easy to fall into when it comes to writing copy for
your website. It's that old re-inventing the wheel thing.
You can talk to people about what you do, but when it comes
to writing it down, you lose the words. What I want to know
is... who said you need to find different words in the
first place?

Yes, writing website copy can be daunting. And the
challenge is very often one of how to condense everything
you want to say into bite-sized chunks. Most coaches,
though, have already worked on this when you've crafted,
practised and polished your elevator speech. So even if it
doesn't feel like it, you do actually have a head start!

Let's take a quick look at what needs to go on your home
page. You'll probably spot rather a lot of similarities to
your trusty elevator speech...

** The important basics of your home page copy

First of all, you need to make it clear who you work with -
who falls into your target market. If you work with single
mothers, for example, say it up front. That way the website
visitors who fall into your target market will be attracted
to read more. Those who don't fit will move on elsewhere.
And that's just fine.

The second really important piece of content for your home
page is a brief description of the results that you
deliver. These are, of course, precisely the results that
your potential future clients are looking for. By being
clear and concise again, you will catch the eye of
potential future clients and encourage them to read more.
Others who don't fit the bill will just surf on by. And
that, again, is just fine.

The other vital piece of the jigsaw is your sign-up box
where you ask visitors to leave you their name and contact
details. However interested they are in what you offer, if
you don't capture these details from them, they may as well
have surfed on by. And that really isn't fine at all!

Take your basic elevator speech and you'll probably find
that it follows a similar formula. The temptaion is always
to add in a huge chunk about HOW you achieve the results.
You know, all that stuff about coaching!

But remember that - before all else - your website visitors
want to know whether you work with people like them.
They're not that interested in how you do it. Later on,
maybe, yes. But not at the point where you're making your
first impression and they're weighing up, at the speed of
light, whether to hang around on your website or not.

So begin with your ideal client in mind and write your home
page just for them. Imagine they are standing in front of
you and you are answering their questions. Tell them
exactly what they want to know and do your best to avoid
coaching terminology. Keep the sentences short, use
relevant sub headings and bullet points and before you know
it... hey presto! A clear, concise, relevant and
client-attracting home page of your very own.

television too. They actually asked a local Calgary News
reporter for an interview to counter this officer's claims.

a challenge to the RCMP. Prove to the rest of the world
that the Hells Angels are completely responsible for 100%
of the crime in Canada

And prove to them that if the Angels were to disappear,
crime would too.

They made the RCMP's claim look as ridiculous as it is.

Yes, The Hells Angels do commit crimes they never said they
don't. But to go on national TV with a ridiculous claim
like this is a challenge and the Hells Angels countered the
challenge.

chance to place an ad on their web site if in return the
person desiring the ad placement will apply the web sites
ad on their web site. This works well if it has the
opportunity to have this setup with multiple web sites
(Kent 325).

There is another way and that is to apply to what is known
as a link page. This is a web site that consists of only
links to other web pages. Usually all the web pages have
something in common with each other. Convincing the link
page to accept the offer to contain the web site link to
the site that is currently being promoted is easy although
sometimes there is a small fee ("7 Ways").

The internet provides many news services that contain what
is known as a message board. This is where there are always
discussions on certain topics. This is a good place to
sneak in an ad from time to time as long as it is
respectfully done and doesn't disrupt the conversation. The
best way to do this is by disguising the ad as a perfectly

to where the people you want hang out." (Kent 334). Do not
get carried away because the promoter of the site can end
up with a bad reputation that gives the site a bad
reputation for what is called "spamming". Knowing how to

flashy ads. Short flashy ads irritate people. It is bast to
use long indirect informal ads that make it seem like a

We have all experienced this at some point in our careers,
either in our real job or network marketing and MLM lives.
I propose that this experience of procrastination and
related fear go hand in hand and produce psychological pain.

Fear! The gurus will tell us it is defined as False
Expectations Appearing Real. Speaks for itself don't you
think? Consciously we all know that in our lives
experiences, when we face our fears they are not really as
bad as we originally thought; thus, false expectations
appearing real.

Ok Craig. What does this have to do with procrastination
or even network marketing and MLM? Great question and I
don't mind sharing my thoughts with you about this.
Procrastination is the putting off of tasks that we don't
really wish to do, are distasteful, and especially the
things we are afraid of attempting. Cold calling or the
calling of leads would be a great example.

You know how that phone call involves picking up that
400lb. receiver, dialing a strange number, with the unknown
on the other side? OMG! Do I really know what to say?
Maybe no one will answer and I will have dodged that
bullet. What if someone does answer and then I will need
to actually talk to them? I know I only have two to four
seconds to make a positive impression. How will I posture
myself? Can I posture myself? What the heck does that
really mean anyway? With all of this involved we just
completely put off, procrastinate, making any phone calls
for that night.

Now the pain sets in. We've just gone through all of this
self emplaced anxiety and decided not to call anyone so we
procrastinate for just one more day. Oh! How that makes
us feel like we've once again failed in our mission.
Another defeat in working our home based business. My
gosh! I'm never going to make this business work. Maybe
I'll just go read some more motivational books. Yea!
That's the ticket! Then I won't have to think about this
failure.

Do you see the process here? Very simple but very
devastating at the same time, right? First we have the
idea of having to call leads, which we all know will help
grow our business. Fear sets in and all of those fearful
thoughts run through our head. At the same time the pain
of the fear sets in and our imagination exaggerates the
consequences, we start feeling the pain of anxiety and then
we decide to just put it off for right now. We always tell
ourselves we'll be better up for it tomorrow especially
after reading more motivational books.

Look at this! Who are we all fooling? We're fooling
ourselves with this thinking. Is it now clear how
ridiculous this is? Logically, we all know this is just
another part of negative thinking; stinking thinking which
then becomes attitudinal sclerosis. Then we quit!

Quitting is not an option! We have our aspirations, our
dreams and visions are on the line here. We all know what
strong financial potential network marketing and MLM have
to offer. Like no other business model in the world. We
can better our situation and help others do the same!

So what do we do Craig? Simple! This is where personal
growth comes into play in this business. We have all heard
your business will only grow as much as you do, right?
It's true! Now is the time to get with your sponsor or
upline, discuss the situation, do three way calls and just
listen in on what they say. Take good notes; be very
attentive to what is said and how it is said. When talking
to leads there is a reason for everything and the goal is
to move them closer to the line and collecting a positive
decision. Fear, false expectations appearing real.
Procrastination, putting off what we don't want to do and
know we should do. All lead to feelings of failure, lower
self esteem, feelings of not being worthy of our own goals
and aspirations.................. Phooey! Com'on and get
with it! This is something that can and will be overcome
by those of us motivated enough to disregard these thoughts
and feelings and move forward. It is a temporary challenge
or bump in the road.

The good news is that we can all get past this fear,
procrastination, and anxiety that it brings. I think Nike
has nailed it on the head. When faced with personal
challenges, "just do it!"
