A series of articles to assist you in making the best
personal choices.
You want to work from home, but are unsure of where and how
to start. You search the internet, but are bombarded by so
much information, that you are bewildered by all the
options available to you. Let
me reassure you: You're not alone! There are countless
people out there who have been exactly where you are right
now!
What you need to help you through this, is a systematic,
step-by-step process to select what will suit you best,
from the huge range of top home businesses available out
there.
Step1. Complete a simple home budget to get an estimate of
your monthly living expenses. Include all regular or fixed
items, such as rent or mortgage cost, electricity, water,
municipal taxes, and insurances. Then list the more varied
items such as food and allowances for telephone, medicines,
and other variable expenses. Don't forget to include an
allowance for entertainment. (Yes - you still need to live!)
Finally, add a reasonable amount for regular savings - you
must be able to put away a regular amount towards that
"Rainy Day." This exercise will give you a fair idea of how
much income you will need, before you can afford to quit
your job.
Step 2: Do some honest "Soul searching." Ask yourself some
questions. (Preferably discuss these with someone you trust
and respect.) The answers will greatly affect your plans
and course of action.
Question1: Why are you looking around for top home
businesses? Possible answers might include: "I need more
money - I can't come out on my pay." "I'm stuck in a
dead-end job, so I'm bored and frustrated at work."
"There's no security in this company and I'm afraid of
retrenchment." "I have personal/family reasons." "I'm
having a mid-life crisis!" Depending on your answer to
Question1, ask yourself:
Question2: Are you looking just for extra income, or do
you plan to leave your job eventually, and work full-time
from home? The answers to this question will have a marked
effect on your personal strategy, motivation and
commitment, so think this through very carefully.
Question3: What skills do you have which might be valuable
to you in running a business? Answers might include
book-keeping, typing, computer literacy, wood-working,
auto-repairs etc. In the next article, in our attempt to
help you make the best choices in choosing from all the top
home businesses which might be available to you, we'll
consider your interests, home, family circumstances and
others.
